Palm reading: the complete guide to the lines of your hand

The three major lines

Every reading starts with the three lines almost every hand carries: the heart line, the head line and the life line. They are read in that order, because the first says how you feel, the second how you think, the third how you hold yourself up.

What matters is never length alone. It is the depth of the stroke, its clarity, its breaks and islands, and above all how the lines separate or join where they begin.

• ✦The heart line — highest, under the fingers: emotional life, the way you love and bond.
• ✦The head line — in the middle: how you reason, decide and concentrate.
• ✦The life line — curving around the thumb: vitality, grounding, major changes of direction.

The secondary lines

Not every hand carries them, and their absence is not a bad sign: it simply means that theme does not structure this particular life.

The fate line (or line of Saturn) rises towards the middle finger and speaks of work, vocation and trajectory. The sun line speaks of recognition and creation. The marriage lines, on the edge of the hand, speak of deep bonds — not necessarily of marriage in the administrative sense.

The mounts: the relief of the palm

Under each finger sits a more or less pronounced pad. In palmistry, a full mount is read as energy available in abundance; a flat mount, as energy the person draws on less.

The mount of Venus, at the base of the thumb, is the most telling: it is read as the reserve of warmth, desire and generosity. The mount of Jupiter, under the index finger, as ambition and the need to run your own life.

Why one line alone means nothing

This is the most common mistake: looking up one isolated line online and drawing a conclusion from it. A short heart line does not mean the same thing alongside a straight head line or a diving one, on a wide hand or a narrow one, with a full mount of Venus or a faint one.

A serious reading always crosses: the lines with each other, the lines with the mounts, and the whole with the shape of the hand. That crossing is the difference between a generic horoscope and a reading that is actually about you.

Left or right: which hand do you read?

In the most widespread tradition, the non-dominant hand shows what you came with, and the dominant hand what you have done with it. Both are read, and it is often the gap between them that says the most.
